Memoria del pasado, memoria del presente

We usually believe time that controls us has been built under the gravestone of our collective memory, but there are initiatives, projects and livings facing this pessimist perspective to propose another way to understand history, a clearer and hopeful one: the memory of the past light up the present. A reality that comes from the continuous effort made for years through recovery and diffusion works to protect our daily and familiar memory, the one that is closer to Garachico’s inhabitants.

Memoria Mágica is a long development initiative with a huge future prospect consisting in the recovery of a generation’s values, hopes and frustrations memories, a time that, with its bad and good aspects, means a source of ideas and lessons which help us to understand present. A present where memory is recovered through didactic technics keeping it away from forgetfulness.

It is a reflection about time course and life, which can be used as guideline by current and future generations. Any past analysis represents a future prediction.

There is no memory without a story (in this case, an audio-visual one). Memories of time when working long hours, hunger, fear during difficult years. Many times we go back to memory’s aspects that still hurt and make us feel sad despite time course. Time does not always heal.

Memory of this place, Garachico, made up of words, pictures. Words announce life, make memory grow up, face forgetfulness. Collective voices and words. Memory’s voices. Memory and life’s magic voices.
