VassilOhnQuartet

Vässil Øhn Quartet see themselves as time travellers intent on taking today’s folk and popular music back to their own time: the Roaring Twenties. They do so with the aim of bringing island emigrants and the Canarian people closer together. The inspiration for this band comes from great artists like Louis Armstrong, Pepe Benavente, Los del Río, Nat King Cole, Georgie Dann, or a descendant of Canarians who was a precursor to the emergence of jazz, namely Alcide Núñez (a clarinet player for the Original Dixieland Jass Band).

The quartet is made up of four Canarian musicians: multiinstrumentalist Jairo Cabrera, pianist Pablo “Pol” González, bass player Carlos Perdomo, and drummer Amilcar Mendoza. Each of them has independently been a part of bands across a range of genres and styles, such as Los Sabandeños, S&C, Troveros de Asieta, Big Band de Canarias, or Mestisay.
