Ati Quigua is an indigenous activist, environmental politician and pacifist from Colombia who belongs to the Arhuaco people. She is also a public administrator and Master in Government and Public Policy. January 3rd 2004 she became the first indigenous councilwoman in Colombia and later on the first indigenous woman at the vice presidency of the Colombian Council from 2004 to 2011. Along her political career she focused on the creation of a “water culture” through the establishment of a water statute in Bogotá and the protection of the environmental heritage, the nutritional sovereignty and the woman protagonism within this fight.

Her training of indigenous women for the protection of indigenous peoples and their territories should also be highlighted. She is a bilingual primary school teacher.

Nakabuye is a climate activist from Uganda. She founded her country’s Fridays for Future movement, which aims to protect the environment and promote racial and gender equality. She is committed to the protection of Lake Victoria and to sustainable agriculture, and promotes projects that empower young women. Her leadership has mobilized over 50,000 students and has garnered the attention of international media and forums such as COP28 and the UN General Assembly. Through her campaigns against oil pipelines in East Africa and a strong presence on social media, she is amplifying the voice of African youth within the global climate justice movement.

Artistic Brote Award 2025

Born in Japan in 1985, Yuima Nakazato found in fashion a way to bring together innovation and sustainability. Trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, he integrated origami into his pieces, earning him recognition throughout Europe. He has been presenting his collections at the Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris as a guest member since 2016. Inspired by nature, he develops his own techniques to bring to life sustainable garments imbued with meaning and emotional resonance.

Marta Olazábal is a researcher at the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3), where she leads the group on Climate Change Adaptation. Her background spans multiple disciplines: she is an environmental engineer, holds a PhD in territorial economy and has spent over 20 years specializing in the social and political aspects of urban sustainability and climate change resilience. She is one of the authors of the Special Report on Climate Change and Cities by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Olazábal has received awards and recognitions such as the prestigious Ramón y Cajal (2023) and a Starting Grant from the European Research Council (2021). Her project IMAGINE Adaptation explores how cities advance their efforts to adapt to climate change, combining science, art, and politics.

She has been active in environmental journalism since she started working with Europa Press twenty-two years ago. She was part of the team that founded the newspaper Público and has worked in the press office of the Ministry of the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs.

Guerrero holds a degree in Information Sciences and Journalism from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), studied Italian Language and Literature at the Università per Stranieri di Perugia (Italy), and has spent most of her professional career at the newspaper EL MUNDO, which she joined in the year 2000. In 2009, she moved to the science and environment team, where she covers current developments in space exploration, paleontology, technology, geology, the climate crisis and biodiversity, among others. She also produces in-depth interviews and reports for the PAPEL section, EL MUNDO’s daily magazine. She organizes and directs the annual environmental journalism course at the Escuela de Unidad Editorial.

La espectacularidad de esta hendidura de ocho kilómetros de diámetro y hasta uno y medio de profundidad, recubierta de densos bosques de pino canario y surcada por profundos barrancos lo ha convertido en visita obligada en el archipiélago canario. Fue declarado por la Unesco como Reserva de la Biosfera.

Declarado Parque Nacional en 1954, sus barrancos y alturas acogen una extraordinaria vegetación, con representantes de endemismos canarios. Destacan las plantas rupícolas, aferradas a la verticalidad de las paredes, especies propias de las cumbres, las saucedas y el pinar canario. Entre la fauna, aves y reptiles cuentan con subespecies propias de la isla.

The latter is reflected in two books, Traditional Crops of the Island of Lanzarote and Cultural Uses of Plants in the Fields of Lanzarote, as well as in A Visual Guide of The Flora of Lanzarote, the first of its kind in the Canary Islands

The Timanfaya National Park is a testament to volcanic might and to the commitment to environmental conservation. Declared a national park in 1974, its unique landscape—shaped by the intense eruptions of the 18th and 19th centuries—spans over 51 square kilometers, offering a breathtaking display of craters, lava fields, and mountains of fire. The study of Timanfaya has contributed tremendously to scientific knowledge about the Canary Islands, in no small measure thanks to the significant research and outreach carried out in the area. Through careful stewardship, Timanfaya not only preserves a unique ecosystem but also invites visitors to reconnect with nature through science, history, and volcanology.

Bretó approaches photography as a way to enjoy nature, express oneself, and promote environmental and wildlife conservation. From the Ecuadorian Amazon, Paccha Turner-Chuji advocates for the rights and autonomy of indigenous communities, as well as the rights of nature. A member of the Sarayaku commune and the Tukui Shimi Foundation, she promotes respect for ancestral wisdom and raises awareness of the struggles of indigenous communities through education, art, and communication. Her artwork celebrates ancestral worldviews and their important role in protecting the Earth. Currently, she is finishing her studies in Human, Social, and Political Sciences at the University of Cambridge.

Sergio Sarti recorre el mundo con una mochila de 35 litros con el objetivo de proteger el planeta, limpiando su naturaleza y dando charlas educativas. Mostrando una forma de vivir minimalista, silenciosa y respetuosa con el resto de seres vivos.

Decidió dar un cambio radical a su vida, pasando de tener una vida acomodada a vivir con lo esencial. Su proyecto, THE ATLANTIC RECYCLE WALK, existe para mejorar las Islas que tanto ama y, desde su pequeña posición, poner un grano, de esas playas limpias, para cambiar el mundo.

Laura Reboul is a climate activist and environmental issues communicator who is committed to raising awareness and carrying out actions to mitigate the ecosocial crisis in which we find ourselves. She graduated in Environmental Sciences and is studying a Master in Agro-environmental Sciences. She is an environmental educator in the Heliconia cooperative and the National Volunteer Representative for Greenpeace Spain. She advocates combating the climate emergency with education and community action, but without forgetting the value and power of individual action.
