Synopsis
Whaling has been around for centuries. It seems the fruit of man’s violence, destroying himself by destroying nature. Accompanying the rise of capitalism, the practice survives today, reflecting humans’ eternal destructiveness of nature and the creatures unable to resist them.

He has directed several short films on the border between documentary, experimental and fiction. He develops his own style of editing which questions violence and history from film and photographic archives. His first feature film, Une Jeunesse Allemande (2015) opened Berlinale Panorama, and the second, Lumières D’été, was premiered at San Sebastian. Nos Défaites was presented at Berlinale Forum 2019. In 2023, he won the César for Best documentary for Retour à Reims.
