
Landi is a father living in hiding in the Zapata marshes, where he hunts crocodiles with his bare hands to feed his family. On the radio, he hears of hundreds of deaths a day from the pandemic and rising social tensions in Cuba. Along the coast, his wife Mercedes searches for coal to cook and care for their son, who has severe autism.

Author
David BIM began his training at the Escuela de Cine de Cataluña (ESCAC) and went on to study direction at the Escuela Internacional de Cine de Cuba (EICTV). In 2015, he wrote and directed the short film The Last Two. Since 2021, he has combined his artistic career with teaching. In 2023, he founded FICCLAB, which he currently directs. FICCLAB is an international EICTV programme focused on developing first feature films. As a director, he spent eight years developing and filming his first feature, Al Oeste, En Zapata. The film premiered on April 9, 2025 at Visions du Réel in Nyon, where it won the International Critics’ Award (FIPRESCI) and the Special Jury Award in the Burning Lights section.
