Synopsis
Phylloxera is an insect that parasitizes grapevines. In 1863, it brought on a viticultural crisis in Europe and the Americas, leading to global changes in how vineyards were cultivated: through the widespread use of grafted rootstock systems. Today, almost all of the world’s vineyards use this method. Only four regions are considered free of phylloxera: Chile, Crete, Cyprus… and the Canary Islands. The film addresses the historical memory of Canarian wines and their importance within the world’s viticultural heritage.
